Biography

A few words about us Kalamandalam Calcutta had its humble beginning way back in 1968 and has been the pioneering organisation for Classical Dance arts in the Eastern Region of India promoting the dance Forms Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam and Kathakali thus educating the art lovers of Eastern India and beyond. The founders of the Institution Guru Govindan Kutty and Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty, both, alumnus of Kerala Kalamandalam have been contributing to the subjects by composing several new items for the repertoire of the dance forms. The pupils and alumni of Kalamandalam Calcutta who form the performing wing of the Institution have for the last many years performed to raving applause in the different festivals organised in India and beyond including excellent appreciation from critics and connoisseurs at the National and International level.
