 Biography
Dexter started his training in 1985 under the guidance of Shri Tensing Ramlakhan, who is a disciple of Gurudev Shri Prof. H.S.Adesh. His tabla was richly supported by his family especially his Aaghee, Mother and Father.
Dexter also had the opportunity to study with great gurus who visted the land, such as Shri Govind Chakraborty (Kathak Kendra), Pt. Puran Maharaj (son of Pt. Kishan Maharaj), Shri Sandeep Das (Banaras), Shri Ram Mohan Mishra (Nephew of Pt. Birju Maharaj).
These artiste conducted workshops, where lots of compositions were learnt.
In 1995 through the assistance of Sitar Maestro Mungal Patasar, Dexter went to Guyana and studied tabla, with then ICCR teacher, Shri Nirmal Mondal (Kathak Kendra). Here a lot of techniques and compositions was also learnt.
Having the quest and passion to learn more, Dexter in 1999 applied and was awarded a scholarship to study tabla in India. But could not since his father passed away a month before his scheduled departure.
It was through fate that he came into contact with Shri Ritesh Das of Canada, and is now under his dedicated guidance. Dexter also had the opportunity to study with his Guruji, Guru, world famous Pt. Swapan Chaudauri at workshops.
He is presently the tabla instructor for the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, North Houston. Also, recently opened his tabla school here called RIYAZ Houston School of Tabla.
He is greatly influenced by:
Ustaad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Swapan Chaudari, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee....& my gurus Shri Tensing Ramlakhan, Shri Ritesh Das
