Biography

Kavita Subramaniam
Kavita Krishnamurthy, also known as Kavita Subramaniam, born Sharda Krishnamurthy in Delhi, is an Indian playback singer.

Coming from a talented background, Krishnamurthy moved to Mumbai to pursue her musical career. Her first Bollywood song was officially credited in 1980 in the film Maang Bharo Sajana. She became famous with the track Hawa Hawai from Mr. India picturized on Sridevi.

She was the one of the two female soundtrack vocalist for music director Rahul Dev Burman's musical hit 1942: A Love Story besides Lata Mangeshkar. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2005. She is married to L. Subramaniam, a famous violinist with whom she occasionally collaborates.
