Biography

I started learning SITAR from my father SHRI ANUPAM BAKSHI from a very early age.
From 1990 I became a direct disciple of PADMABHUSHAN PANDIT DEBU CHAUDHURI and was rigorously trained for the next 15 years.
From the age of 7 I started performing on stage.

FESTIVALS and other occasions:-
Feb.1996 - YUVA MAHOTSAV organized by SAHITYA KALA PARISHAD, N.C.T. DELHI.
October 1997- NATIONAL CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL organized by the H.R.D. Ministry with the cooperation of NEHRU BAL SAMITI at Vigyan Bhawan.
Dec. 1997 - YATRA festival organized by the SAHITYA KALA PARISHAD.
July 1999 - by the invitation of HABITAT WORLD, solo recital at the INDIA HABITAT CENTRE.
2000 - SOPAN music festival organized by the SAHITYA KALA PARISHAD.
Dec. 2000 - BABA HARBALLABH SANGEET MAHASABHA at Jallandhar.
Feb. 2001 - first Overnight Concert of SPIC MACAY at Ramjas College. Delhi University.
Nov. 2001- PRATIBHA UTSAV organized by the NORTH CENTRAL ZONE CULTURAL CENTER, Allahabad.
July 2005 - solo concert at INDIA INTERNATIONAL CENTER, New Delhi.
Nov. 2005 - HEMANT UTSAV .
Dec.2006 -- SANGEET NATAK AKADEMI’S ’SANGEET PRATIBHA’ festival held in Patiala.

INTERNATIONAL VISITS:-
In 1991 - RUSSIA under a students cultural exchange programme.
1994 - I.C.C.W., Govt. of India contingent at the SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S ART AND CULTURAL FESTIVAL’94 in CHINA.
2005 - 10 days tour to ISTANBUL in TURKEY by ICCR..
2007 - CHINA as a member of the 1st INDO-CHINA YOUTH DELEGATION sent by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

I had the profound honor of performing as a Solo musician in YEAR OF INDIA in RUSSIA (formerly known as the FESTIVAL of INDIA) from 15th - 25th May2009.

H.R.D. (Ministry of Human Resources and Development).
Sahitya Kala Parishad.

EMPANELLED with the ICCR. (GOVT. OF INDIA).

EDUCATION:-
I did my Graduation in Indian Classical Music (Sitar) from Miranda House, Delhi University.Was the University topper in Instrumental Music.

It was followed by Masters in Indian Classical Music (Sitar) from the Delhi University.Topped the University in Sitar and was felicitated with Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan Gold Medal.

After my Masters I pursued M.Phil in Sitar and Ph.D in Indian Classical Music from the Delhi University.The topic of the doctoral thesis was "Impact od Dhrupad on Veena and Surbahar from the viewpoint of form, style and technique"

Received my Doctorate degree in 2006..

Honors and Awards:

From 1987 to 1995 bagged 18 GOLD MEDALS in different State and National level competitions organized by NEHRU BAL SAMITI.

In 1993 was honored with the KALABHUSHAN AWARD, the highest appreciation for a child talent.

Stood first in the ALL INDIA MUSIC COMPETITION of the MAHARSHI GANDHARVA VED VISHWA VIDYAPEETH in 1997.

In Dec. 1999 participated in ALL INDIA CLASSICAL MUSIC COMPETITION organized by SHRI BABA HARBALLABH SANGEET MAHASABHA in Jallandhar and stood first.

On the occasion of the 55th Foundation Day of the U.N.O., NEHRU BAL SAMITI honored 26 dignitaries with the MILLENIUM TROPHY. II was one of them.

In Jan.2004 bagged ‘SURMANI’ award from SURSINGAR SAMSAD (KAL KE KALAKAR), Bombay.

I n Jan. 2008 was honored by the RAMJAS FOUNDATION with their prestigious ALUMNI AWARD.
