Suresh Wadkar was born in Kolhapur, India. He acquired his basic music education from his guru Acharya Jialal Vasant since the tender age to 10. He impressed both, his Guru and his father with his exceptional voice.[1] He began to perform on stage at a very early age.

Singing career
In 1976, he won the Sur-Singar competition. This helped him gain entry into the Indian Film Industry. His first assignment was the popular song Seene Mein Jalan for the film Gaman (released in 1978). This was followed by the film Paheli (released 1977).
His career received a boost when Lata Mangeshkar recommended him to big names like Laxmikant-Pyarelal and Kalyanji-Anandji.[2]
Hit songs with Laxmikant-Pyarelal like Chal Chameli in the film Krodhi (released 1981), Megha re in Pyaasa Sawan, Raj Kapoor's Prem Rog and Kalyanji-Anandji's Vidhaata, made Suresh Wadkar a popular name in the industry.
